Bowers & Wilkins, a name synonymous with high fidelity and premium products, recently unveiled the B&W P5 Mobile Hi-Fi headphones, a pair of headphones long overdue for iPod, iPhone and other mobile players.

Yes amazingness. No it is not a real word, but it is the only way to describe the quality, build, comfort, and sound of the Bowers & Wilkins (B&W) P5 headphones. Quality/build: Here's the rundown: memory-foam-padded earphones, sheepskin earcups, interchangeable cables, no exposed ports, detachable...

Of course these headphones can't compete with the best semi-open or open designs for sheer clarity of audio in home applications. But there's little doubt that B&W's sumptuous P5s certainly challenge the finest portable headphones in the world, and they do it with spectacular style.

In most minds Bowers & Wilkins conjures a remembrance of dark-timbered, British-built loudspeakers with a distinctive note of midrange warmth, but in the last few years the company has attempted to develop some fresh associations for its brand.

It's hard to write anything new about the Bowers & Wilkins P5 Wireless headphone because so much of what needs to be said has already been said-twice! My review of the P5 Wireless is based on the P5 Series 2 which in turn was largely based on my impressions of the original P5.

Expensive; Bag looks more like a purse than a protective bag

A few months ago, I bought a pair of the Bowers & Wilkins P5 headphones .  The headphones retail for $299.95 (a bit expensive, but so worth it).  The B&W P5′s are noise isolating headphones and are dubbed as a "Concert for One".  Let me tell you, these bad boys are just that.

It's hard to stand out in the crowded headphone market, but the upmarket Sussex-based Bowers & Wilkins has made a good job of it these past few years. B&W's designs are distinctive – a bit too distinctive for my liking in some instances – and its dinky over-ear P Series is pure design art.

Curiosity got the best of me when the assignment came to listen to B&W's new headphones.  As far as I knew, Bowers and Wilkins was not a name I had previously associated with headphones.  The P5 is their first headphone and is part of a new group that B&W calls Mobile Hi-Fi.
