Bowers and Wilkins P5 Series 2 (review): Swanky on-ear headphone looks the same but sounds even better

Bowers and Wilkins' P5 Series 2 headphone is both new and not really new. That's because, except for a color change from silver to black on the earpieces, it looks identical to the original P5 and also costs $299.99 (£249.99 UK, AU$449.95).

The Bowers and Wilkins P5 Series 2 headphones have excellent build quality and rich, well-balanced sound that's now more transparent and accurate; Its earpads are removable and the two included cables are detachable (one has a built-in Apple friendly remote/microphone).

Somewhat pricey; leather earpads will cause your ears to get steamy on warmer days; not all remote features will work with Android and Windows devices

I still haven't found what I am looking for

Looking for the perfect pair of wireless headphone, comparison made with BeoPlay H6 and H8. There are a lot of headphones on the market nowadays, finding the right pair takes time and money. Everyone has unique taste in style and sound, therefore every review is subjective.

Bowers & Wilkins P5 Wireless headphones review: no wires, no compromise

Bluetooth headphones are among the most convenient 'everyday' innovations of the modern era, and have rapidly improved of late with vastly better battery life (largely thanks to Bluetooth Low Energy), slimmer form-factors and overall quality across the board, from cheap headsets to elite-level (and...

Crisp, rich sound quality; Few compromises over wired equivalents; Trademark excellent design and build

Relatively expensive; Not 'commuter' durable

B&W P5 Wireless headphones review

B&W knows a thing or two about making top-quality speakers. The respected British company has already made a successful foray into the world of consumer tech with its headphones and AirPlay speakers (see our B&W A5 review ). It has even launched a Bluetooth wireless speaker: the T7.

Bowers & Wilkins P5 Wireless headphones review: top-notch sound that comes at a price

The Bowers & Wilkins P5 Wireless sound great, look decent and are comfortable for short listening sessions. They last long enough to not have to worry about charging them and are relatively compact for traveling.

good detail; bass and punch; long lasting; comfortable for short periods; stay put on the head; look good

playback control buttons are irritating; no NFC; no Bluetooth reconnect; expensive; don't fold down

Bowers & Wilkins P5 Wireless review: A top-notch on-ear headphone cuts the cord -- but raises the price

Audiophiles tend to prefer listening to music through wired headphones, but that hasn't stopped certain venerable audio companies, including Bowers & Wilkins, from jumping on the wireless bandwagon and introducing a Bluetooth headphone. The company's newest, the P5 Wireless, is for all intents and purposes a dead ringer for the P5 Series 2 but at $400 (£330 in the UK and AU$599 in Australia), it costs $130 more.

The Bowers & Wilkins P5 Wireless is an impressive-sounding luxury Bluetooth headphone, but its high price tempers our enthusiasm.

The Bowers and Wilkins P5 Wireless headphones have excellent build quality and deliver rich, well-balanced sound for Bluetooth headphones (they perform even better in wired mode); The earpads are removable, and a cable is included for wired listening along with a nice carrying case; The tight seal shuts out a lot of external noise and the headphones don't leak sound; Battery life is quite good at 17 hours.

Pretty pricey for an on-ear Bluetooth headphone; leather earpads will cause your ears to get steamy on warmer days (headphones may fit some people a little too snugly); included cable doesn't have an inline remote/microphone.

Bowers & Wilkins P5 Review

The sound quality from the P5s is top notch, and each note is clear and crisp. However, the design doesn't contribute to chest rattling bass.

Wonderful for a full range of sound; the P5 headphones emit brilliant highs; mids and lows

The on-ear design can't give you pounding bass and doesn't protect from ambient noises; but it tries to by sitting very tightly your ear lobes

Bowers & Wilkins P5 Review

The B&W P5 is among the priciest of the consumer-grade portables – a luxury gadget for the iPod/iPhone crowd. It is also the one with the most hi-fi pedigree and, unlike the Monster Beats, is fairly likely to be picked up by a discerning listener in search of fidelity.
