B&W P5 Wireless headphones review

B&W knows a thing or two about making top-quality speakers. The respected British company has already made a successful foray into the world of consumer tech with its headphones and AirPlay speakers (see our B&W A5 review ). It has even launched a Bluetooth wireless speaker: the T7.

Bowers and Wilkins P5 Series 2 (review): Swanky on-ear headphone looks the same but sounds even better

Bowers and Wilkins' P5 Series 2 headphone is both new and not really new. That's because, except for a color change from silver to black on the earpieces, it looks identical to the original P5 and also costs $299.99 (£249.99 UK, AU$449.95).

The Bowers and Wilkins P5 Series 2 headphones have excellent build quality and rich, well-balanced sound that's now more transparent and accurate; Its earpads are removable and the two included cables are detachable (one has a built-in Apple friendly remote/microphone).

Somewhat pricey; leather earpads will cause your ears to get steamy on warmer days; not all remote features will work with Android and Windows devices

Bowers & Wilkins P5 Review

The B&W P5 is among the priciest of the consumer-grade portables – a luxury gadget for the iPod/iPhone crowd. It is also the one with the most hi-fi pedigree and, unlike the Monster Beats, is fairly likely to be picked up by a discerning listener in search of fidelity.

Bowers & Wilkins P5 Wireless Headphone, Black

So, is the B & W P5 Wireless worth the price In a word, yes. The materials, high quality build and great sound all make it so. These headphones make a statement with their appearance and feel, something akin to designer watches or bespoke suits. Not only that but they sound great too.

Beautiful materials and craftsmanship; Mature and balanced sound; Solid battery life

Clamping force a little tight

B&W P5 Headphones

Curiosity got the best of me when the assignment came to listen to B&W's new headphones.  As far as I knew, Bowers and Wilkins was not a name I had previously associated with headphones.  The P5 is their first headphone and is part of a new group that B&W calls Mobile Hi-Fi.

Bowers & Wilkins P5 Mobile Hi-Fi Headphones

Serious music listeners would do well to look to one of the most revered speaker makers to find good headphones. I'm referring to Bowers & Wilkins, more commonly known as B & W. The new B & W P5 Mobile Hi-Fi headphones are promoted as a 'Concert for One'. Is the concert worth the price of a ticket?
