B&W P5 review: overall verdict

The B&W P5 s are the first cans from the audio giant, which has brought us previous 5 star stunners the B&W Zeppelin and Zeppelin Mini. With a suitably retro look and the promise of beefing up even the most basic of MP3s to sonic stardom, the B&W P5s should be a must-have for minted music...

Look fantastic; lovely detailed sound; iPod support

Occasionally slip from your ears; could have a better low end

Bowers and Wilkins P5 headphones

Renowned for it high-end hi-fi, Bowers and Wilkins' decision to make headphones is a bit of a departure for the company. At first glance, its debut set of cans, the P5s, certainly appear an impressive addition to its respected range of audio porn.

Bowers & Wilkins P5

If you dress in Armani suits, drive a BMW Z4 Roadster and commute to work in your own private yacht, the B&W P5s are the only choice of headphone for you.

Bowers & Wilkins P5

British company Bowers & Wilkins (or how it's more commonly known, B&W) has been making high-end speakers since Dr Phil started wearing long pants. Only in the past couple of years has the company dabbled in multimedia, but it has done so with great success: both of the Zeppelins and the MM-1...

Luxury build and styling; Even-handed yet exciting sound; Replaceable cables with iPhone mic

Flimsy cable easily broken; Treble can become harsh

Of course these headphones can't compete with the best semi-open or open designs for sheer clarity of audio in home applications. But there's little doubt that B&W's sumptuous P5s certainly challenge the finest portable headphones in the world, and they do it with spectacular style.

In most minds Bowers & Wilkins conjures a remembrance of dark-timbered, British-built loudspeakers with a distinctive note of midrange warmth, but in the last few years the company has attempted to develop some fresh associations for its brand.

Bowers & Wilkins P5 Wireless Headphone, Black

So, is the B & W P5 Wireless worth the price In a word, yes. The materials, high quality build and great sound all make it so. These headphones make a statement with their appearance and feel, something akin to designer watches or bespoke suits. Not only that but they sound great too.

Beautiful materials and craftsmanship; Mature and balanced sound; Solid battery life

Clamping force a little tight

Average

I wanted these headphones to be great. B&W makes some great audio equipment, but leaves something to be desired with these headphones. My biggest problems were: 1. The feeling of listening to my music with everything condensed into a tiny area. There was no significant soundstage.

reasonable Mids

Poor soundstage
