Bose SoundTouch 20

The Bose SoundTouch 20 is a likeable streaming speaker with capable performance and great sound, but it needs to support more music services.

The Bose SoundTouch 20 offers the convenience of both Wi-Fi and Airplay compatibility; includes Pandora, with more services on the way; high-quality sound from a quality unit

Missing key services like Spotify; no on-the-fly playlists; no FLAC, WAV, or OGG; no high-res support; no mute or pause button on unit; setup is fiddly

Easy to set up, sounds okay

I'm replacing a mid-sized Panasonic stereo with this and iTunes. This lets me get rid of all my CDs and a big bulky stereo box, but the sound is inferior and having the speakers right next to each other is painful to listen to.

Extreme convenience; Plug it in, or pick it up and walk into another room without stopping the music; Setup was easy on my Mac

Basically sounds like two computer speakers taped together; Bass distorts at high volume with things like "Mad Season - Above" and the loudest setting is just loud enough; You won't be blasting any concerts with this, but I guess it sounds pretty good given its size

Bad Software: SoundTouch 20

Sound is good but the software is bad news. You cannot depend on using Soundtouch 20 wireless capability to play your personal music collection. It might work for a few minutes but forget about having it play for a couple of hours while you entertain guest.

Bose SoundTouch 20 review

A nicely designed system but sound and features are limited The Bose SoundTouch 20 is a mixed bag. We like the idea of preset buttons, and being able to play our networked library with relative ease. And if you've bought into the whole Apple ecosystem, you may like the system's network integration.

Neat ‘preset' system; Good looks; Clear sound

Overstated bass; lacks drive; Limited in file support and connections

Lacks the Bose experience

Since the beginning of this year I own the Bose SoundTouch 20 ("ST20" below) and use it in conjunction with a Wave SoundTouch ("Wave ST" below). I came to the conclusion that the ST20 lacks the "Bose experience" and do not recommend it.

Bose SoundTouch 20 Review

Bose's new Soundtouch 20 provides an excellent form factor, solid sound quality, and an intuitive wireless ecosystem that worked remarkably well for a first take.

Full; clear sound; Great stereo separation; Intuitive; well-designed controls; Excellent streaming functionality

Occasional balance issues; Setup can be challenging; Limited to lossy file playback

Bose SoundTouch 20 review: A polished wireless speaker that's rough around the software edges

Over the years, Sonos, once a fledgling startup, has grown up to dominate the DIY multiroom wireless audio space. Now it has plenty of competition.

The Bose SoundTouch 20 is a likeable streaming speaker with capable performance and great sound, but it needs to support more music services.

The Bose SoundTouch 20 offers the convenience of both Wi-Fi and Airplay compatibility; includes Pandora, with more services on the way; high-quality sound from a quality unit.
