Beats Powerbeats Pro

PowerBeats Pro are being marketed as high-performance workout earphones, but they're also high-performing audio devices!

Designed for athletes

PowerBeats Pro will, according to their manufacturers, "revolutionise the way you work out." While they're built for elite athletes, any reasonably active person will love them. They're totally wireless earphones, so nothing will hold you back. The adjustable, secure-fit ear hooks are customisable for superior comfort and will stay in place, no matter how energetic things get.

Sound like a pro

PowerBeats Pro deliver balanced audio courtesy of a redesigned acoustic package that delivers pure sound reproduction, improved clarity and a wider dynamic range.

Control your audio

Choose to listen to left, right or both...you're in control. Each earbud has full volume and track controls so you don’t need a device to adjust your music. Meanwhile, the auto play and pause sensors know when the earbuds are in your ear, so the sounds will start as soon as you’re ready to go. Voice-assistant capability on a variety of compatible devices lets you stay in control.

Long play performance

Each earbud has up to 9 hours of listening time, and with the charging case, you’ll get more than 24 hours of combined playback. In case of audio emergency, 5-minute Fast Fuel charging gives 1.5 hours of playback when the battery is low.  To further conserve battery life, sensors detect when earbuds are idle and automatically enter sleep mode.

Keep moving, keep playing

PowerBeats Pro use Class 1 Bluetooth technology to give you extended range, fewer dropouts and ongoing connectivity as you keep moving. Each earbud connects independently to your device for better connectivity and freedom of use for music and phone calls.

Beats Powerbeats Pro review

The true wireless Powerbeats Pro a big step up for the Apple-owned headphone brand. They have their limitations (see: lack of noise-cancellation, limited noise isolation and IPX4 rating), but they are Apple’s most premium workout buds.

Easy pairing with iOS; Immaculate fit; Enjoyable sound;

Case is fairly bulky; Limited noise isolation; Only IPX4 rated

Beats PowerBeats Pro Review

The Beats PowerBeats Pro are some of the least annoying true wireless earphones ever. And they sound good too.

Stable, comfortable fit; Decent sound; Very good battery life for true wireless;

Connectivity isn't perfect; Slightly synthetic mid texture; Bass boost improved, but not high-end;

Beats Powerbeats Pro review: Bulkier than AirPods, but with better sound

I'll lay it right out there: The degree to which you'll like the Powerbeats Pro, Beats' first true wireless earphones, will depend largely on how well they fit your ears. If you get a comfortable, snug fit with a tight seal from one of the four different sized included silicon tips, you'll probably love these headphones and feel OK about dropping $200 on them. End up with something less than that and you may question their worth.

If you can overlook the jumbo charging case and high price, the Powerbeats Pro true wireless headphones are superior to the AirPods in a few key ways.

The Powerbeats Pro have better sound and battery life than the AirPods and will stay on your ears securely; They offer all the same basic conveniences of the 2019 AirPods, including fast pairing, rock-solid wireless connectivity and always-on Siri voice-recognition for iOS users; Phone call quality is excellent; Physical buttons for music playback control will appeal to Android users.

The Powerbeats Pro are more expensive than AirPods; The charging case isn't pocket-friendly, nor does it offer wireless charging; The headphones deliver some treble push, and may not fit all ears perfectly.

Beats Powerbeats Pro Review

We weren't impressed by Apple's second-gen AirPods, but the company also owns Beats, and the new true wireless Powerbeats Pro couldn't be more different from them. The Powerbeats offer stronger audio performance, easier controls, and a more secure fit, for a better overall user experience. The only thing we aren't fans of is the price, a high $249.95. But it's no secret that Beats charges a premium for branding, and if you're a fan of the company's design and deep-bass sound signature, you won't be disappointed. Design Available in black, blue, ivory, or moss models, the Powerbeats Pro earpieces have a sleek design, with a smooth, matte finish and ear hooks that grip the ear firmly, without feeling uncomfortable. An adjustable grip helps the eartips create an excellent in-ear seal with an exceptionally secure fit. Along with four total pairs of silcone eartips in four sizes, it's hard to imagine these earphones falling out during exercise. That said, they can be a little difficult...

A secure fit, easy operation, and a bass-forward sound signature make the Powerbeats Pro ideal true wireless earphones for Beats fans.

Powerful audio performance with intense bass depth and bright highs; Strong battery life; Exceptionally secure in-ear fit

Expensive; Wildly sculpted sound signature; Auto-play feature isn't for everyone

AirPods may be the go-to for iPhone users, but the Powerbeats Pro are the better option for your Apple phone - particularly for active users. The earbuds are IPX4 sweat-resistant, provide a secure fit, and support AAC. Plus, you can listen for just shy of 11 hours before needing to charge them.

Bluetooth 5.0; Class 1 Apple's H1 chip allows for much greater flexibility Sound quality Secure fit

De-emphasized mids Isolation not great Cost

Powerbeats Pro under test: the expensive sports AirPods

The Powerbeats Pro are good. That's actually how you could leave it. Because they didn't completely thrill me. I don't think they're comfortable enough for that. The sound, on the other hand, is generally convincing, but for $250 I would have really wished for proper ANC.

Secure hold; Sound quality; Battery life; Compatible with Apple products

Not always comfortable; No ANC; Large case; High price

Powerbeats Pro Review

Just weeks after Apple revealed its somewhat lackluster new AirPods , the company surprised us with a new pair of Beats-branded buds which, like the AirPods, are totally wireless. The Powerbeats Pro call back to their sporty predecessors , earhooks and all, but with a more sophisticated design.

Class-leading battery life; Water resistant; Secure fit; sleek design; Bold; vibrant sound

No basic battery gauge; Massive case; Intermittent connection issues
