Battlefield 4 Review

It's become abundantly clear over recent years that modern or near-future military shooters of the first-person variety don't place a high emphasis on story, especially when compared to their multiplayer components. In Battlefield 4 , this trend hasn't been bucked, only reinforced.

'Levolutions' add to strategy; destruction; and overall fun; Same addictive class and leveling system; Visually stunning

Forgettable narrative

Battlefield 4

Multiplayer shooters don't get better than Battlefield 4. Incredible destruction, smart map design, and solid tech combine to produce a true showcase for PS4 and PC. While solo play still lags behind, it's a big step up from BF3.

Multiplayer is genre-leading; again; Levolution and destruction is amazing; Single-player is much improved..

...but the story is nonsense; Defuse mode falls flat

A Rough Battlefield

(Writer's Note: The scores listed are based on the Xbox One version of Battlefield 4 which was reviewed, and should be the same for the PlayStation 4 and PC. For the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 games, take a half gem off for graphics, gameplay and fun.

Battlefield 4

EA and DICE are hard at work trying to get Battlefield 4 stable on all platforms, and until that happens, your experience with it may vary... A few weeks ago, our Battlefield guru reviewed EA and Dice's fourth major Battlefield game of the last few years on PS3.

Battlefield 4

Jumping into a 'Battlefield 4' match online means a couple of things. You're going to choose a class – Recon, Assault, Engineer or Support. You're likely going to die, multiple times, at the gun of somebody employing a tactic you hadn't considered, to which, you will (eventually) adjust accordingly.

Battlefield 4 (Xbox One)

For more than a decade, EA's Battlefield series has been on the cutting-edge of multiplayer first-person shooters for the PC. However, with the new Medal of Honor titles failing to set the world on fire, the franchise has now taken the role of Call of Duty competitor on consoles starting with 2011's...

Battlefield 4

D.I.C.E. set out to do one thing with the Battlefield series and that is tell a compelling story through epic events and sequences that help shape the battlefield. Many will find things to love about Battlefield 4, as well as hate, but at the end of the day, it's one of the greatest first-person...

Safe Bet

As a franchise, Battlefield has always been a multiplayer-centric first-person shooter. This changed slightly when the Battlefield: Bad Company spin-offs were released, both of which contained entertaining and humorous story modes that actually felt like some effort was put into their writing.

Watching a massive tower collapse in multiplayer

The uninspired; bland single-player campaign

It's fun but needs work.

All of those cons can easily be put to rest by the fact that this is battlefield, you can still kill a helicopter by using C4 to fly into the air and hit it out of pure luck. You can still have those intense moments where you go 30 and 3 in Operation Locker/Metro when your teammates are covering you...

I absolutely love the visuals and texture quality that the Xbox One version brings to the table; It has a solid 60 to 50 fps on Campaign and a 30-60 fps on Multiplayer; Major things can be done to improve over the last of it's life cycle but for now it's manage able and looks stunning

Major Frames drop during big cutscenes and make the Campaign lip sync noticeable; I don't see a fix to this until 2015 when directX 12 is released to the Xbox One, but by then we will have BF5/BFBC3 on it's way.

BUGGY! Call of duty is way better! Many other games are better than Call of Duty.

I can't understand why people like this game better than call of duty. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a massive fan of call of duty either, but this game is broken at best! At least most call of duty games aren't broken. SO MANY GLITCHES!!!
