"Great for casual listening/dj'ing, decent for mixing"
These are excellent all around cans, if you can only get one pair for casual listening and mixing in a project studio, these should be considered. They are not very well suited for tracking, because the isolation is surprisingly bad considering how snug they form to your head and ears.

Totally satisfied
These cans came recommended by multiple DJs and producers when I asked for suggestions in the $200 price range for a casual listener. (I paid less than that.) The voice-chat headphones I had been using seemed just fine until the M50s showed me what I had been missing from my music.

Audio-Technica ATH-M50 Review
The Audio-Technica ATH-M50 are around-the-ear, folding, closed-back, isolating headphones. They come with a combination 3.5mm and ¼" plug and your choice of a straight cord or a coiled cord .

Audio-Technica ATH-M50S Headphone Review
Overall, the Audio-Technica M50s headphones represent a very good value for what they offer - an accurate, if lively, presentation of music. Uncompromising in their musical reproduction, don't expect that basement recorded podcast to sound good on them but your uncompressed music will come through...
Pros:
- Good isolation
- Linear bass response
Cons:
- Tight fit

Audio Technica ATH-M50
Most headphones and earphones are designed with some kind of bias to their sound profile. Usually heavy bass, for rockin' tunes. Studio monitor headphones, on the other hand, are careful to reproduce an audio signal exactly as it is supplied by the audio device.
Pros:
- Precise audio reproduction
- Solid construction
- Screw-on 6.3mm adaptor
Cons:
- Can get hot and uncomfortable
- Need to be a fan of ‘flat' sound

Audio-Technica ATH-M50
Let's get something out of the way from the get-go. The Audio-Technica ATH-M50 Professional Studio Monitor Headphones are a great pair of headphones for the money -- and great headphones period.
Pros:
- The, offer excellent build quality and very detailed, balanced sound with tight bass
- They're also very comfortable and are a relative bargain
Cons:
- There's no integrated microphone for making cell phone calls
- the bulkier design makes them less suitable for mobile use
- and the headphone cord isn't detachable
