Asus' budget Xonar DGX and DSX sound cards reviewed
Asus' Xonar DGX and DSX cost less than $50, making them tempting upgrades for folks seeking better sound. Both cards have PCI Express interfaces,...
Recently there has been a debate about whether modern motherboards are able to produce audio quality that matches dedicated sound cards for gaming and listening to music. This can be largely subjective, as some users report hearing no difference whatsoever, whilst others swear by dedicated audio...
WARNING: Not Compatible with Windows 7
In late 2013 Microsoft changed the sound driver architecture in Windows 7, and as of 2014 ASUS still hasn't fixed the drivers for ANY of their Xonar cards. This causes the card to output sound at 8KHz with *massive* compression artifacts, no matter what the settings. It sounds like a bad Skype call.- Amazing hardware
- Bad drivers cripple the card
ASUS Xonar DGX PCI-E Gaming soundcard, 5.1 Channel, Built-in Headphone AMP, 3 gain modes for different usage scenarios, Dolby Headphone for an immersive 5.1 surround imaging, GX2.5 for realistic 3D audio effects, Up to 105dB, Auto
Made a noticeable difference in sound with both music and gaming.
Asus Xonar DGX
I've learned a lot about this card over the course of using it for a while, so I figured I would write a review about it. Ok, some strange install issues off the bat - on windows 7 sp1, the initial install was finicky.- surprisingly powerful at high gain
- dolby headphone dsp
- optical output
- low price
- somewhat high output impedance
- somewhat high noise floor
- equalizer lacks fine control
great
Great sound card, the sound quality of my headset greatly improved. Only problem is the low volume on the front output.
I bought this sound card as the mother broad sound card was bottle necking the speed of the computer and the sound recording of the mic phone was unbearable. Installed the latest software and drives from web site, turned on the GX mode and was truly amazed with quality of sound and mic phone input...
Very satisfied so far!
10/10 would recommend if your on-board sound quit out like mine did. The sound quality is noticeably better. Only issues are no W10 drivers and it not sitting flush with my case but that could have been my install.- Affordable sound by a trustworthy brand
- Plug in and go
- 1
- No drivers for Windows 10, but provided drivers work
- I believe the Vista drivers ended up working out of the three options
- 2
- The back panel was not sitting flush with my case
- not a huge deal, but its not aesthetically ideal
I've never used a sound card in a PC, and it is very apparent that I was missing out as soon as I started using this card. Great sound quality and makes me want to update my speakers to help it live up to its full potential.
- -Great sound quality
- -Good user interface for managing front jacks
- -Couldn't figure out why front jack was very quiet at first
