A worthwhile purchase
I bought the Asus Xonar DGX to replace the on-board sound of a Gigabyte H87M-HD3 motherboard. I can't tell the difference between the sound quality of the motherboard and dedicated sound card while listening through a Hi-Fi, although the Asus Xonar DGX can reach higher volumes, which was my main...

Asus Xonar DGX
I've learned a lot about this card over the course of using it for a while, so I figured I would write a review about it. Ok, some strange install issues off the bat - on windows 7 sp1, the initial install was finicky.
Pros:
- surprisingly powerful at high gain
- dolby headphone dsp
- optical output
- low price
Cons:
- somewhat high output impedance
- somewhat high noise floor
- equalizer lacks fine control

Recently there has been a debate about whether modern motherboards are able to produce audio quality that matches dedicated sound cards for gaming and listening to music. This can be largely subjective, as some users report hearing no difference whatsoever, whilst others swear by dedicated audio...

Completely fixed my sound problems. Very happy.
Had no sound no matter what I did. Uninstalled drivers...reinstalled drivers...nothing worked. Until I purchased this card. Now everything works properly. Outstanding!

WARNING: Not Compatible with Windows 7
In late 2013 Microsoft changed the sound driver architecture in Windows 7, and as of 2014 ASUS still hasn't fixed the drivers for ANY of their Xonar cards. This causes the card to output sound at 8KHz with *massive* compression artifacts, no matter what the settings. It sounds like a bad Skype call.
Pros:
- Amazing hardware
Cons:
- Bad drivers cripple the card

great
Great sound card, the sound quality of my headset greatly improved. Only problem is the low volume on the front output.

Great product
Great kit. Easy install and nice performance. Bought this to up the sound quality of my headphones (Steelseries Siberia) and was not dissapointed. Worth the price over onboard sound.

decent card for the money
I used this for a while but have now sold it My new rig allows hdmi out to my ht and I use the system that way. this sound card helped and was handy to have when my older graphics card stopped sound. it is low cost enough as a trouble shooter part.

Great SPDIF output for HTPC
Building a cheap HTPC, and chose this card. Other reviews showed it was good quality. I get full 5.1 sound for HD channels.
