ASUS ZenScreen GO MB16AP review: A portable display that won't drain your PC battery

The idea of portable displays is relatively new and it is because of the rise of USB Type-C, which allows power and data to flow through a single cable. Looking on Amazon, you can find almost a dozen such devices, including ones from HP, which we recently reviewed , AOC and ASUS.

Light and portable; Can use Type-C or Type-A ports; Doesn't drain laptop battery; Works with Android smartphones

Origami cover is just OK; Pen-stand is weird; No touch support; Build quality is poor

The portability and usefulness of having a battery to self-power the monitor are its best features. However, I wish it were brighter in daylight. The on screen controls allow the monitor to use only the battery and I am not seeing any drain from either my Macbook Pro or Windows laptop.

The Asus portable monitor works just as described it is a high quality product that has made my work station totally portable and very functional, very happy with the purchase.

If like me your main PC is a laptop and you want a bit of extra screen space but don't want the power cables and a bulky desk top monitor on your kitchen table then this is the monitor for you.

Asus ZenScreen Go (MB16AP) Review

The $299.99 Asus ZenScreen Go (MB16AP) offers a sensible solution for powering a mobile monitor where outlets may be scarce, or when your laptop or phone is underpowered or low on juice: a built-in battery of its own. This 15.6-inch panel, which can connect to a phone or laptop over a USB-C port, can provide up to 4 hours of juice when you most need it. It's a good, lower-priced alternative to the Asus ZenScreen Touch (MB16AMT)—which also packs a rechargable battery—and includes features such as a comprehensive but easy-to-navigate onscreen display (OSD), a 1080p IPS screen, a foldable stand, and a pen that serves as a makeshift stand. Sometimes, a Pen's Just a Pen (or a Stand) Measuring 8.9 by 14.2 by 0.3 inches (HWD) and weighing 1.9 pounds, the Go is a handsome, thin display with a dark gray frame. Its 15.6-inch IPS screen supports 1,920-by-1,080-pixel native resolution (aka 1080p). It has the same size, resolution, and screen technology as a number of mobile monitors we have ...

The Asus ZenScreen Go (MB16AP), a 15.6-inch portable monitor, has a built-in battery to keep it from draining the laptop or other mobile device it's attached to. Only a slightly muted panel keeps it from top marks.

Built-in battery; 1080p IPS screen; Detailed, easily navigable OSD; Protective cover doubles as foldable stand
