Asus TUF FX504GD (Core i5-8300H, GTX 1050) Laptop Review

We welcome cheaper and more affordable gaming notebooks so long as they preserve core features and offer a balanced experience. Cut too many corners and the drawbacks can become distracting. For $700 USD, the FX504 sacrifices display quality and includes no SSD for a poorer overall experience.

2.5-inch SATA III + M.2 NVMe slot; support for Intel Optane memory; relatively low core temperatures; no pulse-width modulation; steady CPU performance; inexpensive

budget TN panel; narrow color space, strange CPU Turbo Boost behavior, soft trackpad prone to fingerprints, matte panel is slightly grainy, no USB Type-C or SD reader, more difficult serviceability, poor internal speakers, short battery life

Buying this laptop is like stepping into the dog's poop - you can clean it but the smell remains... Overheating, super loud cooling, throttling, power limit, battery issues... Plus wrong Windows version installed in my case. Some of these issues can be fixed, some not..

Asus TUF Gaming FX504

Entry-level gaming laptops typically have meh keyboards, which is a problem because PC gamers are undoubtedly hard on their keyboards. Asus' TUF FX504 puts a better keyboard in a low-end laptop.

The Asus TUF Gaming FX504GD-ES51 is an entry-level gaming laptop with a comfortable and extra durable keyboard; easy access to RAM and storage drives for upgrades and generally good gaming performance for its configuration

Against its similarly priced competition, the base TUF's display is disappointing; It has fewer ports and its hybrid hard drive is a bit slower than laptops with solid state drives

A fab laptop

If you are looking for a laptop that is pretty, and is light enough to take anywhere, with a battery life that will keep you going all day, then this is not the one for you. However if you want a powerful machine with a large screen for gaming and everything else you want to do, then I recommend you...

Beautiful except for the Slow hybrid drive

I got it on Black Friday and it was delivered in less than a week (from US to AUS). The laptop is beautiful. The only issue is the Hybrid Hard drive has a very little SSD partition (around 8gb) and so the everyday windows use experience might feel very slow compared to PCs with full SSD drives.

Compact, Robust, Fine

Very up-to-date laptop... can use it for day-to-day services, though it ain't portable enough, weight wise, but carry-able. The pros: - Very robust, heavy duty. - Options for silent/balanced/overboost fan modes. - Anti-Dust Cooling service. - Keyboard typing is pretty solid.
