The Assassin's Creed franchise has been going through changes over the years, but last year's Origins was without a doubt the biggest change the franchise has seen since its start.

Assassin's Creed Origins was a huge triumph for Ubisoft. After releasing a game once a year (sometimes three, even) for seven years, the Assassin's Creed brand was suffering. Origins was a breath of fresh air in pretty much every aspect, and I was content with where the franchise was.

It is not often that a game's name feels perfect due to the layers of meaning associated with a word, but for Assassin's Creed Odyssey , it couldn't be better. The first connection is Homer's Odyssey, which is a Greek poem about ancient Greece and here we are in the Peloponnesian War.

Beautiful architecture; Intricate systems work well together; Being a mercenary is freeing; Great voice acting

Slowdown in big cities; Fast travel is more efficient; but you miss Adrestia conversations; Loads before conversation take some getting used to; The fear of missing unmarked historic landmarks

Similar to how 2013's Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag only felt like a traditional entry in the Assassin's Creed series by virtue of the logo that appears on the screen once the game boots up, Assassin's Creed Odyssey could basically ditch the Assassin's Creed title altogether and be none the worse...

The greatest shame of Assassin's Creed Odyssey is that there's still a fair amount to like about it. It is an often beautiful looking game with some spectacular moments dotted throughout its longwinded story. Its failure to sustain and emphasize those moments feels like a failure of editing.

Bought this as a gift for an experienced gamer, who has told me that, in their opinion, this has to be one of the best games ever! Quite a statement! Firstly a few minor niggles though.

Gorgeous world that begs to be explored; great protagonist; compelling and personal story; many side stories are interesting; combat is fun

Quest tasks and exploration objectives are somewhat repetitive; conquest battles are ultimately pointless; some lag in menus and moving between regions; occasional glitches and jank

Good game but after awhile it gets somewhat repetitive. Worth the play but maybe not at full price. This is my opinion though!
