I purchased this optical drive to use with a new iMac 5K 27-inch Retina (2017) machine. While there were less expensive third party USB optical drives available for the Mac, I elected to purchase the Apple product to eliminate any possible compatibility issues.

Newegg price was less than same unit at Apple store. Good value if wanting to stay with Apple products.

Using on a new Mini with 1 gig HD; Works fine for loading software and photos; Sets on top of the mini so short USB cable not a problem

Not 3.0 USB connection; Would give 5 eggs if 3.0

I used my super drive with protools 11- it was seemless to set up and get started. Truly plug and play. Its nice that My mac book is much slimmer with the drive detatched.

I purchased this as a replacement for one just like it that was 6 years old. The previous one stopped working with DVD's & would eject them quickly, though CD's would still engage. I used another grand, as interim, but this one just works smoother.

I got it and looked just like it said it would but I plugged it in and it wouldn't even turn on! I really don't recommend buying this from here.

THis drive is great if you are on the run with a laptop computer. About the size of a CD case it will fit in the pocket of a bag and be there for your Cd and DVD data needs.

Works great with ne MacBook Pro (Retina Display). I am sure it will work great with them all.
