Amazon Fire HD 10 (2019) review

A great screen is the highlight of the Amazon Fire HD 10. It’s big, looks rich and is simply better than what you normally get at the price. Samsung may have finally pulled its finger out and made a cheaper tablet with a half-decent screen, the Galaxy Tab A 10.1, but it’s still a chunk more expensive and isn’t nearly as powerful as the Fire HD 10. That the hardware is so capable for the cash highlights how far behind Amazon’s apps and games libraries are though. Too many top Android games aren’t available, including PUBG, Asphalt 9 and Call of Duty: Mobile. Capable techies may be able to “hack” Google Play onto this tablet, but that crowd and the usual Amazon Fire tablet audience are worlds apart.

Excellent value; Great screen for the cash; Good battery life;

Misses out on (almost) all the best Android games; … and many great apps too; The camera sucks; Limited storage on the entry level version;

Amazon Fire HD 10 review: A cheap, big-screen conduit to Amazon's digital content

The Amazon Fire HD 10 is the biggest, cheapest way to get Amazon Prime perks on a tablet.

The Amazon Fire HD 10 is satisfyingly large and loud enough for indulging in Prime digital content, however a tablet with a sharper screen can be found in the same price range.

The Amazon Fire HD 10 lets Prime subscribers easily stream or download movies and TV shows in the library, as well as download games that are exclusively free for Amazon users; It houses powerful speakers and a microSD card slot for extra storage; Its robust parental controls make it family-friendly.

Images aren't as sharp as on the 8-inch model; Performance is sluggish when downloading apps; Its plastic construction feels cheap.

Amazon Fire HD 10 review (2019)

Still one of the best-value 10-inch tablets around, the 2019 version of the Fire HD 10 is a great choice, so long as you don’t need Google services

Amazon Fire HD 10 Kids Edition (2019) review

The previous version of this tablet was already the best kids device out there, and one that earned a 5-star review from us last year. There’s no reason to change that mark this time round – in fact it’s moved further ahead of the competition thanks to a couple of upgrades that really matter (faster processor and better battery life) and a couple that aren’t so important but are still welcome (USB-C and the kick-stand). It’s well-priced, too, with your £200 giving you a year’s Fire for Kids access which in itself could be worth nearly £50. If you’ve got a primary-school-age child it’s a great investment – both for peace of mind and to give you some much-needed peace and quiet.

Speedy performance; Good battery life; Excellent kid-friendly software; Robust case;

Lacks enough content for older kids; Cameras are rubbish; Screen could be better;

Amazon Fire HD 10 (2019) Tablet Review: A 10-inch tablet at a bargain price

An all-round entertainer. The Fire HD 10 (2019) is one of the cheapest 10-inch plus tablets on the market, with Amazon pricing it at US$149.99. While its pricing precludes the Fire HD 10 (2019) from being a high-end product, it has enough qualities to entertain most people. Read on to find out for whom the Fire HD 10 (2019) is best suited.

a powerful octa-core SoC; Alexa integration; a bright 1080p display; USB Type-C connectivity; expandable storage; the Google Play Store can be sideloaded; long battery life; affordable;

cheap plastic design; Fire OS remains Amazon-centric to a fault; the Amazon App Store is still sparse compared to Google Play; no GPS; bad cameras;

Amazon Fire HD 10 (2019) review: Entertainment pro, minus the big price

The immediate appeal of the Fire HD 10 is for families, with this offering much better value than a premium rivals, with a well-rounded tablet experience. Its strength is entertainment, making it great for travel or as a second screen for movies and TV.

Value for money; Plenty of power; USB-C charger; Good battery life; Great for kids;

The build is very plasticky; App ecosystem doesn't quite keep up with Android;

Amazon Fire HD 10 review: Going big on entertainment

There are few tablets available for £149.99 and few that deliver as much as Amazon is offering in the Fire HD 10. It's definitely a tablet that should appeal to those wanting big screen entertainment, with a definite leaning towards those Prime customers who will have access to plenty of content.

Handsfree Alexa; Great device for browsing; Display looks great (when you avoid the reflections); Price; Excellent parental controls;

Display is very reflective; Dolby Atmos speaker branding is a little misleading; Some flex in bodywork;

Amazon Fire HD 10 review

With a metal skeleton, decent speakers and solid battery life, it seems clear a big-boots at Amazon made it clear that the Amazon Fire HD 10 had to reach a certain level of performance in some key areas. It’s just a pity that the screen isn’t one of them. With pixel density that’s years out of date, the Amazon Fire HD 10 just doesn’t offer the screen quality that’ll get us spending upwards of £150. The funny thing is that while the larger display is what’ll get people buying this instead of the Fire tablet or Fire HD 8, those extra inches actually are what make the screen worse. The Amazon Fire HD 10 makes getting your hands on content easy. But for the price you can do better. Even the Nexus 9 has been seen on sale for less.

Sturdy metal skeleton; Big display; Decent speaker for lower-cost tablet;

Very pixellated screen; Often feels a bit slow; Fire OS is a bit overbearing; Feels a bit cheap;

Amazon Fire HD 10 (2019) Review

When it comes to budget-friendly tablets, Amazon's Fire line is hard to beat, with higher-quality builds, more intuitive software, and much better warranties than most of the competition. The new Fire HD 10 ($149.99) is no exception, with a more powerful processor, more RAM, and Fire OS 7, for smoother performance than you'll find on older Fire models. If you don't mind living inside Amazon's walled garden, the Fire HD 10 is the best 10-inch tablet you can buy for $150 and our Editors' Choice.Design and Durability Available in black, blue, purple, or white, the Fire HD 10 looks like a near carbon copy of its predecessor. The front is dominated by a 10.1-inch display with chunky bezels, while the back is constructed of thin polycarbonate and bears the Amazon logo. The top edge is home to the volume and power buttons, a headphone jack, and a USB-C charging port. The speakers sit on the left and a microSD slot is on the right. The Fire HD 10 measures 10.3 by 6.3 by 0.4 inches (HWD) a...

Amazon's Fire HD 10 remains the most reliable 10-inch tablet you can buy for $150, with solid performance, good battery life, and a sharp display.

Solid performance for the price; Good battery life; USB-C; Fire OS 7 brings many improvements

Limited app selection; Mediocre speaker quality and cameras

Amazon Fire HD 10 (2019) review: Big screen, big value

If you want a tablet but don’t have hundreds of dollars to throw around, then it’s likely you’ve considered Amazon’s Fire devices. The Amazon Fire HD 10 is the biggest and best of its Fire tablet range. It doesn’t sound like quite as much of a bargain as the Fire HD 8 at $80 or the Fire 7 at $50, but a 10.1-inch screen for just $150 is quite noteworthy. Amazon has also made some welcome improvements over the 2017 model, including a bit more grunt under the hood — both in terms of processing power and battery life — and a switch to USB-C for faster, easier charging. You can expect some compromises at this price, but the Fire HD 10 could be the ideal family tablet for those on a budget. Slip the Fire HD 10 from its simple cardboard packaging and you’ll find a minimalist design that’s all about the 10.1-inch screen. The body is chunky plastic that curves into the glass front while the back bears Amazon’s logo and the camera lens at the top left. Large bezels around the screen make the tab...

Large, sharp screen; Low price; Long battery life; Smart screen capability in Show Mode;

Fire OS is laggy at times; No Google services;
