I have to admit that I failed to get hold of a review copy of Alien: Isolation when it first came out, which is one of the reasons why I jumped at the chance to grab the title from Game the other week as it was selling half price for the Ripley Edition.

It's the first step towards the Alien game you've always wanted. But it's a tiny, uncertain step. Given the poor showing of the last few major games set in the Alien universe, however, it's a welcome one.

This is a great game. It can be hard at times but for any fan of Aliens it is a must buy.

When everyone thinks of making a videogame based upon the Alien franchise, most dream of one based upon the Colonial Marines from Aliens. A lot of classic videogames take more than a slight inspiration from that second movie. Unfortunately, the recent game based upon that concept proved disastrous.

"Let me see if I have this correct, Lieutenant - it's an 8-foot creature of some kind with acid for blood, and it arrived on your spaceship. It kills on sight, and is generally unpleasant." -Superintendent Andrews, Alien 3 Alien is one of my favorite films of all time.

If an enemy is dangerous enough, it can be even more intimidating than 10 of one enemy. We saw it with Resident Evil 3, in which the tall, monstrous, powerful and intimidating Nemesis creature was an enemy to be feared every time he showed his ugly face.

Through no fault of its own, Alien: Isolation had a lot to prove right out of the gate. Critics were universally disappointed with the last attempt at incorporating the ‘Alien' franchise into a video game experience with Aliens: Colonial Marines from Borderlands developer Gearbox.

1979's Alien film by Ridley Scott is often considered the pinnacle of science fiction cinema. Several games have attempted to replicate the claustrophobia and terror of being hunted by an extra-terrestrial predator in space, though few have succeeded.

Captures the film's look and feel; Gameplay that rewards patience
