There are many reasons to have a really good set of monitoring headphones in the studio - we may need to work quietly because of noise constraints or perhaps we don't want to listen to the same set of speakers all day.

The AKG K712 Pro's winning combination of comfort, build quality, and superlative sound puts it in the top tier of headphones in its price class.
Hand-crafted in Austria; Ear coddling comfort; User-replaceable cable
Expensive; Lacks mike or inline remote
I tried HD800 HD600 HD650 K240 600ohms(MIA) K701(MIA) K271.... K712(MIA) is the most serious for Mastering!! I use HD650 to enjoy music(HD800 too fake) , Use K712 to Work. K712(MIA) Really for professional!!
Despite some issues with the treble and upper mids, I'd recommend these to anyone who's looking for a pair with a wide soundstage and who's either unafraid of brightness (these are still going to be less harsh than anything by Beyerdynamic, for example) or who's unafraid to EQ when necessary.

I've had a little over a week, I've owned the Sony HD-7509 (to be avoided) and the 7506 is a good headphone price / quality ratio, I always use it for decision sounds, the K712 is open. I got this headphone at a great price on a Belgian site, cheaper than its German counterpart.
The AKG K712 Pro has been around for more than two years, and in that time it has solidified its position within the headphone world as a competitive headphone with a competitive price. But at $399, how does this open back headphone compare to similar models from other manufacturers?
Excellent balanced sound & clarity across the spectrum, great resolution and soundstage, extremely comfortable.
Bought these for mixing on the go and they are just fantastic. No good for plugging into your phone as they need a little more power but actually work fine straight out of a laptop jack and really well on my Focusrite 2i2 which is usb bus powered. Buy a pair and rediscover music!
Bought for an open air, expansive sound and wasn't disappointed. One of my most comfortable headphones (out of 12 sets). Love the colorway. I custom made a shorter cable, about 4'.
